33687lan decodes as follows:
3 = Oldsmobile division
36 = Cutlass S (but could also have been found on a legitimate 442 in 1968 and 1969)
87 = Holiday Coupe (2dr HT)
lan = Lansing MI assembly factory
218983 is simply a Fisher Body sequential build number and means nothing.

The 442 body was exactly the same as the Cutlass body in those years. Most 68-69 442s got Cutlass body numbers from Fisher body in those two years. This is well documented in the Fisher Body Manuals for 1968 and 1969.

Hang on Joe. Everything I've ever seen or read said the 442 in 1969 had a VIN number that starts "344". Cutlasses will have "33__" If what you say is true, (first I've heard this) it will be pretty easy to pass off a 1969 442 clone as the real thing. I'd say Eddie has a Cutlass S Holiday Coupe - which is still a nice car.

My Decoded information:
You have a 1969 Cutlass S Holiday Coupe that was built in Lansing Michigan during the 2nd week of December 1968. The car has a black interior and is Crimson in colour. Engine should be a 350 CID.

Please read the original question. This is the BODY TAG, NOT the VIN. Then read the Fisher Body manual. In 1968 and 1969, many (most?) 442s came with 344xxx VINs and 336xxx body tags. Again, this is well covered in FACTORY documentation from those years.

For 1969 all 442's have a VIN that starts with 344 ("3" being Oldsmobile and "44" designating the model 442) . As you said we're not talking about VIN but body tags.
Eddie, check your VIN. If it starts with 344 then you do in fact have a 442. If it starts with 33... then it's a Cutlass. What does you VIN say?
Note: If you bought a Cutlass advertised as an original 442, you have the law on your side.
Was I right about the colour and interior?

You may have missed IDAS 69's other posts about this car. We've already determined that the car is a 442. The question was about the body tag (and the regular confusion about the 336xxx body tags on 68-69 442s).

TO ALL: i have the original bill of sale, protecto plate, warranty card, owners manual, etc... I've even talked with Ida Matthews (original owner of car) She confirmed milage on car. She said she would send me photos of the car right after she bought it. How does this help in price or documentation??? Thanks, Eddie
