Newbie Question

Not sure if this is the right forum.. I was looking for clarification if anyone knows if a 1986-1987 442 is a cutlass. I know it’s based on the Cutlass model and it derived from it, but does it stand alone as a 4-4-2 ? Original paperwork do not mention cutlass

The VIN is the legal definition of the vehicle. Every 1985-87 442 has a VIN that starts 1G3GK479...
The "3" in the third position signifies Oldsmobile division
The "GK" in positions 4-5 signify a Cutlass Salon, which is the legal model type
The "47" in positions 6-7 signify a two door notchback coupe
The "9" in position 8 signifies the 180 HP VIN 9 307 that was unique to the 442.

The car is a Cutlass Salon Coupe with the RPO W42 442 package and the VIN 9 high output engine.
