I have a 425 I bought to build for my 67 cutlass I posted pics in my pictures of the engine everything I see says 66 425 toronado b heads 389395 still has front engine mount and manifolds on it can anyone confirm that this is a 1966 super rocket 425 I appreciate any help
The exhaust manifolds, and front engine mount tell me it came from a Toronado. The silver blue on the engine block looks about right. The valve covers look to dark blue.
Location of PCV on driver's valve cover also says Toronado as well as canted oil filter mount. The letter code stamped on head pad should also tell you if its a Toro head.
The engine unit number stamp shows that at least that head came from a Toronado. Yes, the front engine mount, oil pan, valve covers, oil filter adapter, intake, and exhaust manifolds all are Toro units. The only available Toro engine for 1966 was the 385 HP, 10.50:1 CR 425. Good motor, but as Joe notes, pay attention to lifter bank angle and diameter. Those Toro front mounts are hard to come by these days, so don't scrap it. You can use the Toro oil pan in a RWD chassis, but despite the extra oil volume, it is not your best choice. Exhaust manifolds and oil filter adapter need to be changed to RWD versions.

I don't think you'll be able to use the exhaust manifolds. Esp the drivers side. Its definitely a Toro motor. The drain plug in front will not be accessible once its in the Cutlass.
Some people hammer a channel in the fold that divides the pan in half so oil in front can drain into the sump. 'D' block, 'B' heads - '66 425. Its been a long time but the Rochesters back then had a reputation for lighting the car on fire. So use a newer one or keep an eye on it.
Save: engine front mount, oil filter adapter, exhaust manifolds, heater hose tube. Toro guys are always looking for them especially a manifold that has a good heat riser.
Yes it is a 425, But is it 39 degree or 45 degree cam bank angle? more than likely its 39 degree cba for Toro, other than Toro 45 degree cba. All Toro's had all the best parts Olds offered, larger lifters, bigger valves, steel forged crankshaft. Olds threw all the goodies in those engines.
Yes it is a 66toro 385 hp engine for sure with the web drillmark in the front block web along with all the other tell tales. You will have the .921 lifters and make SURE you buy the lifters from one of the olds dealers like dick Miller. DO NOT buy the Chinese lifters!. Lifters will cost about $300.00. It will have the stock cam angle so any olds cam will work.
Make sure you use A.R.P. Main and rod bearings bolts and head bolts won’t hurt either along with a good cam and double timing set. Use a 7 qt oil pan and pickup because the 425 like to pump a lot of oil upstairs. Smooth out the rear oil return holes in the block and heads some to aid in oil flow back.
That is the same engine I built for my 1970 cutlass S with a lunati voodoo cam, aluminum heads and edelbrock air gap manafold with a reworked 750 Holley double pumper.
