Ok, Tonight we dynoed my engine. 460 hp and 534 tq. Nice flat tq curve. We found another 28 hp above that with a 2 inch carb spacer and more torque as well but I'm thinking that won't fit under my hood and I'm more interested in the numbers as it is in the car. My motor and dyno guys tell me I need a better intake. I have the torker. I see there's a Victor intake but I wonder will that fit under the stock non ram air hood?
P.S. actually it was only 459.9 hp but close enough fer me.

What were the rest of specs on your build? I'd be very interested to know as I may be headed down that Big Block road.
I'm sure someone on here may have that info but you can always check the Edelbrock website, it'll give you carb pad height dimensions for both the Torker and the Victor and go from there.

I don't know off hand but a method I've heard of is to take a lump of modeling clay and put it on your air cleaner. Close the hood, then take out the clay and measure the thickness. You can then compare the intake you have now with the height of other intakes you are considering knowing how much room you have to play with. John

Ran sweet on dyno. Plenty fat torque band. I forgot the sheets at the dyno because my engine builder threw out his wussy back loading my motor! he's watching me type this but too hurt to do much to me.lol
By the way, the engine was plenty sensitive to timing. 32 degrees total timing. plus or minus 1 degree was 12 hp and 14 ft/lb torque. VE was around 97.5 through the range.
Should rock pretty good but the lure of more power with a spacer or better intake if I can pack it under the stock hood would be tasty.

Thanks for the info. It's a dead giveaway that you need more intake/volume. Whenever you gain 28hp by adding a spacer, that screams you need more airflow and/or plenum. Good luck in trying to adapt the Victor to your application. I'm going EFI so the shorter Throttle body might allow me to use the Victor, we'll see.

My dyno guy said I had a nice combination that ran really well but said that a similar combination on a chev or mopar would be around 550 hp plus or so. My motor guy is a bit disappointed that we missed 500 hp as well. Where is there more power to be had that would fit under the flat hood? I've read a couple articles that talked about how easy that was to do Was that just magazine hype? I know my engine builder does good work. I've personally seen 930 hp from a SBC 441 CI for a super gas car and quite a few 500+ hp mopars and chevs and fords. What is the peculiarity to Oldsmobiles?

The fact that you gained 28hp with the spacer also tells me you need more carb. It could handle an 850 easily.
Head flow is key. I know Bill T. says flow isn't everything but maybe how well it flows at all lifts.
Here's one for you, I did EFI on a 427W Ford, Specs were, 9.2/1, the same cam specs as yours except is was a hyd roller, Eight stack 2-1/8 Hilborn Manifold and Yates heads that were $10,000.00 bare. Yes 10K.
Motor made 621hp@5900rpm, and even with the 8 stack it made 535ft-lbs of torque at 3500rpm, on 91 pump. So much for no low end torque on big manifolds. The heads were the key.
All from a 427 Windsor Ford with 9.0/1. Not bad IMO.
