In 1968 you could get the Turnpike Cruiser option on the 442. It was a high compression 400 with a 2bbl. Rated at 290 HP.

If the car is completely bone stock, rebuild that turnpike cruiser carb rebuilt and put it back in again, just to keep the car bone stock. Just my personal opinion....!

Yup. Rebuild what you have. Turnpike Cruiser was an uncommon option and if you change it to 4-barrel, the car's provenance is lost.

I found a 68 442 Turnpike Cruiser in a backwoods Vajenya junkyard around 1992, complete down to the special aircleaner. Had I known then what I know now about TC, I might have tried to save that car. As it was I spirited it's original unused redline spare on red steel wheel out for the outrageous sum of $10. It ended up in the trunk of Jim Stohlman's 67 W30.
