'71 455" AC + Alt Brackets

Hi All. I'm building a 1971 455" that originally did not have AC and want to add it (aftermarket or ?). I'm told that in that year they made 3 lengths of water pumps (6 1/2" 6", and 5 1/2" for the A.C. equipped cars. I would like to use the stock brackets if possible and need to know if i can just bolt on a 3 groove Crank pulley from an AC car. Or do I need all of the brackets form the AC car or do I have to go aftermarket? If so who sells these aftermarket brackets and pulleys? many thanks,wfg4u@aol.com

You won't need to change any brackets, but will likely need to change the pulleys. If your car has the originals for non-AC they won't have enough grooves to add the AC compressor belt. Since the pulleys need to be matched to one another I'd encourage you to be sure your getting the correct ones or purchase a set that are matched to each other. There's a two code letter and about a 6 digit number stamped into the pulleys. Can you look for those and let us know which ones you have?

Looks like I have most, if needed missing power steering parts. I would need to gather these as I have tore this block down to be rebuilt
Make a fair offer plus shipping

Hi Guys. Thanks for the reply. The Water pump pulley(3 Groove) just has a KK stamped on it. The crank pulley (3 Groove) has 399405-KC stamped on the inner side. Please advise as to what this means or where I can find the info. many thanks.

I think the three belt pulleys you have may work with AC. If you need brackets/compressor I'd encourage you to check with oldstata and see if you can work out a deal for a complete set. Then bolt the AC unit on and see if the belts will line up. The reference I'm using shows the KC crank pulley as correct for 68-72 AC cars. The water pump KK is a little less sure. But its coming out as either 1972 with AC or 73-75 Toro with AC
