"Normally" there is a metal line from the fuel pump to the carburetor, and the fuel filter is inside the inlet housing that the metal line attaches to.

On QuadraJets the fuel line attaches to the front of the carb. I can't tell what carb you have, other than it's not a QJet.

Someone has added braided hoses and an inline filter to that engine.

Looks like an Edelbrock carb was put on. They have the rear fuel inlet and I have seen many fuel lines sitting on the heat crossover of the intake. You should re-route that line, or better yet, get a correct Quadrajet!

Just concerned about the heat, also looks like the starter underneath is about a inch from the headers.

Yeah, my starter is about the same distance from the headers. Been like that since 1982.

Your starter distance from the headers is normal also.

IF you are concerned about your starter being too close to your headers you can get a thermal blanket to wrap around your starter. Sometimes the starters on Olds motors have heat soak issues but that can usually be cured with a starter in good condition and a good tune.
