oil pan
455 going into 65 Cutlass, someday, is there room for a pan to stay the original depth but use side kick outs for more oil?
Like the Chevy one pictured.
I'd crawl underneath and look but both my jacks are broken.
All the Olds ones I see are deep sump.

I've never put one of the oversized pans on a 1965. But I do have a parts car on stands so I snapped a couple pictures for you. It looks like the passengerside has room as long as you stay under the oil filter. The drivers side has room as long as you stay under the starter. Also, as you can see the bottom of the oil pan is at about the same level as the crossmember. That's why they used the funky oil drain plug. So if you put a deeper pan on it will likely hang below the crossmember. I hope the information helps, if someone has used the oversized pan please post to let us know how it worked out. John

Fantastic pics! Thanks John!
Seems like I should get my mini starter and figure out the oil filter before I fab a bigger sump. I'm wondering looking at that picture about BBO vs. SBO sumps? Looks like there is a small amount of room to go forward also.(?)
I have oil pans and time and a welder but not much extra cash.
300+ for aftermarket pans and they all seem to hang down.
.
Maybe I should start another thread but this leads me to ask why not run a remote oil filter?
I know one "Olds vendor" says not to. Anybody run one?
