Radiator Cap 13psi vs. 16psi
I was going to replace the radiator cap on my 1969 98. The current cap is a 13lb. with a vent lever. I picked up a 16lb. cap by mistake, anyone know if this is a big problem? What is the cap supposed to be?
Thanks,
Karl

I'm not positive for 1969, but it's probably supposed to be 15 psi as in other years. If so, using a 16 psi cap runs the risk of operating the system at a higher pressure than intended. Probably not a problem, but why risk it?
Using a lower pressure cap has the advantage of reducing the risk that a 40-year-old radiator, or some other component will let loose and strand you. However, when you run a lower pressure cap, you are more likely to get local hot spots inside the heads, and the system will boil over easier.

the cap schould be between 14 to 17 psi.
as it recomends in the chassis manual.
the cap should open between 14 and 17 psi
i bought my olds with a 8 psi cap and it did open, flowed over at 100 degrees Celcius.
switched it also with a 16 psi cap,
as it recomends in the chassis manual.
