Door Handles question...what are these?
Got these in a parts bin with lots of other parts. Repops or re-chromed, not sure. But I know they are not 68-72' Cutlass Handles like the box said.
As Pics show in the third pic below, one has super thin handle area, the other is thicker. The third one (top one) is a 68-72 Cutlass handle and is the thickest.
These also are shallower in the thumb plunger mount area than the Cutlass handle, so they dont engage the door mechanism to open door, the stem is not long enough
What are the 2 different shiny handles for?
I did notice in research that the thicker of the two sort of match up with a Nova, but not 100% sure.
Cutlass handle is at the top in above pic
Cultass Handle in the above pic is the bottom handle

GM made millions of these in the 60’s. It was the way you opened car doors from the outside. For a long while from maybe 1964 to maybe 1970.
But I have the impression there may have been many versions - by brand, by 2 vs. 4 door and perhaps other variations. In pictures, they all look the same, net of exposure pitting for old stuff, so it’s hard to tell what might work on your car, unless its a 1:1 reproduction, or good quality boneyard part.
For example, I’ve never been sure that Cutlass/442 reproductions would fit my my big Olds from 1966. I would suspect not, but have never tested it.
Anybody know what the variation scheme in those days was?
Cheers

Thx.
I have many older 68-72' Cutlass Handles, including new repops. They are all exactly alike. These two new ones are clearly different as the pics show, whatever they are.
I have acquired many handles over the years from 70-72 Cutlasss's first hand off the cars directly, can verify all these pretty much all the same shape wise. So there are consistencies for sure on the 70-72 Cutlass models at least. I assume 68' 69' Cutlass's handles would be the same.
I have zero knowledge on any other years re. Olds door handles.
