How to recoat the Fiberglass Hood scoop on 84 H/O

The hood scoop on my car is down to the fiberglass strands. What product do you put on it to give it a smooth surface again? I think it's called Gel coat. The wing is bad too but they make new ones of those. Thanks Jackson

You 'can' re-gelcoat it. You need a special gelcoat gun, as well as the gelcoat. It will go on thick, and not so smooth, so you'll have to do lots of sanding afterward to make it nice. Another option, the one I most often use, is to put on a high build epoxy primer. Easier to find, easier to use, with a standard primer spray gun, and easier to sand smooth afterwards.
