Springy thingie...

How hard is it to remove the spring-loaded upright hood ornament like the ones on big ol' last-model Custom Cruisers? With a hood the size of an aircraft carrier, LOTS of snow can pile up on it. So when it "advances" glacier-style in a bid to reach the pavement it catches on (and pushes forward) that big rectangular hood ornament.

I know the easy answer is to just cut the spring, and given its age the spring might self-destruct even if removed carefully, but I'm hoping there's a handy-dandy tip for "uninstalling" it.

Thanks in advance,

Drew

This is about the easiest project you'll find on the car.
There are 2 10mm or 11 mm foil nuts that hold it on.
Just unscrew them.
Don't ever cut the spring.
If you must, cut the paper clip going through the center of the spring.
