residual valve location ?

I want to check the residual valves on a '67 Olds Toro. It is an all drum system, master cylinder apppears to be the same as my '69 Cutlass with drums. Problem : my 'book' say the residual valve, or check valves are located it the outlet ports of the M C . I removeed an outlet fitting ( the part the flared brake line fits over ) and nothing in there....A retired auto instructor told me it was located inside, at the end of main valve body, while my manuals say they should be under the fittings.................so where are they ???????thanks

I got it figured out. they ARE suppoesed to be in the MC line connections and when the MC's are rebuilt, some get the check valves and some don't. All have the same part number.....so buyer beware !
