1961 Olds Super 88 Coupe *SOLD*
SOLD
I'm selling my baby. This car has been in my life for over 20 years. I started to tear into it about 7 yrs ago to do a frame-on resto but never finished. Circumstances in my life have forced me to abort the project several times and now i have a newborn. I'm afraid the olds is gonna have to move on down the road.
The Good;
This car only has 68,000 ORIGINAL miles. It is 100% complete. All #'s match. It is a California car. NO rust.The 394 motor(bottom end) has been rebuilt but I haven't put it back together yet. The interior is in good condition with just a wrecked headliner and some cracks in the dash. I had the rear bumper rechromed. All 7 or 9 pieces of it. Most all of the rest of the chrome is in great shape. there is no filler on any part of this car except the passenger door and pass. rear quarter.(see "ugly' below)
The Bad;
Cracked windshield. The car is in pieces. Headliner is a mess. Front bumper has two dings in it from the parking bollard at the local Safeway. It has a bad heater core. One of the wipers is not original. Chrome for the passenger side is for a four door. It's all I could find.
The Ugly;
The little old lady my father and I bought the car from was 91 yrs old when she stopped driving it. She had a pretty severe hunchback as well. She didn't hear to well either. She used to drive it to Safeway maybe once every couple of weeks and she used to park by feel. LITERALLY!!! She also used to park between two 4x4 posts. She managed to never hit the drivers side but the passenger side paid for it. It has some repairs to the body that will need to be redone.
Anyway, that's my story. There's more but you're probably not interested in the details. There was only 7005 of these cars ever made. If there is half that on the road today I'd be surprised. As an unrestored, 100% complete, California car w/ 68,000 on the odo, I know what this car is worth and you probably do too. I also am aware of the work that needs to be done to it. Needless to say I'm not going to give it away. I'm not in love with the idea of selling it to begin with. Don't lowball me please. No tire kickers either. If it doesn't sell it will rot in my yard til I get the time too finish it.

Very nice solid car, great lines. I hope someone buys it because it would be a shame to see it rot. Most people are into the A-bodied muscle cars these days. Even the Cutlass' don't sell unless they are 442,SX,Ram-rods yada,yada. I like the "bigger" cars and even if they are a "deal" these cars become a money pit. I always say jokingly but truthfully, your lucky to get $.50 on each dollar one has in these "larger" cars, labor is free. I have sworn off doing anymore cars, I don't have the time or energy anymore plus I can buy them cheaper done than I could redo one. What ever you do, please don't let that car rot away. The styling, the tooling, the uneekness of this Olds is rare and it would be a shame to let it go to waste. This "Old Girl" has been fortunet to make it to 45 years. Good Luck, Ken

I have to quit looking at this car! I would really like get "her" and put some "rouge and lipstick" on her. All she needs is a little loving. Ken

You need to quit looking and start buying!!! LOL I'm just kidding. Seriously you could look for the rest of your life and chances are you won't find another one like this.

I do alot more wrenching than I do sitting behind the computer. It's alot more productive and you don't come across near as many smart asses. Maybe you should try and be a little clearer as to who you're making your comments to. You might try "hushing" yourself unless you've got something to say that is an actual "contribution" to this forum. Certainly this little exchange of words is pointless. Have a good evening.
