1968 Ram Rod W31 Black Red Documented
1968 Ram Rod W31 Black Red Documented
This is a real deal, documented RAM ROD. One of only approx 500 produced and the only known Black with Red.
It still maintains a lot of originality and has not been restored.
It runs and drives good as it is, but will need to be restored in order to be a show car.
The body overall is very solid, with repairable rust at the bottoms of the front fenders and rear quarters.
Trunk Pans and floor pans are very solid. Frame is very dry and clean too.
M21 and 3.91 Posi
Has correct factory over the counter replacement block. With all correct parts.
Radio delete added.
Since I purchased the car from Dean, I changed all drivetrain fluids, replaced the carpet and rear package tray.
Price is $27,500.00 obo

This is a very solid car. I wasn't a buyer but I crawled around it and under it when Dean owned it. I was surprised that the little rust that you see is pretty much all that's there. I didn't find any hidden bondo ***** anywhere in the wheel arch of the rear 1/4's. The only thing that appeared to be replaced was the driver's fender. The dead give-a-way was the 69 eyebrow molding on it.
Good luck with it. Someone will buy it. I'll bet there aren't a dozen documented US 68 Ram Rods.

Car is very solid , driver side door replaced as well at dealership in 68 due to accident when car was being delivered. Owner did not care that it was a 69 fender nor the that they didn't paint the inside of door which is k code .

unfortunately you don't without paperwork. If the bill of sale or window sticker is not available w car no way to truly know. Granted there are a few major indicators such as whether balancer is there, holes in fender wells, scoops, code on rear and ect to immediately negate one.

Okay good look under hood , look for reservoir extended hose to windshield wiper reservoir on passenger side. If hose is there look to see if factory clamp to hold hose on firewall is by heater box and about an inch or so below peak . Also if original see if there is a yellow stripe on it . Check carb for ending numbers 8255.

Restored cars with no paperwork are almost impossible to authenticate. Original untouched cars have a much better chance, but Ram Rods are amongst the most difficult to verify.
The only person / entity other than our company which will provide a certification for a W- Machine is Stephen Minore. You can contact him via facebook at Cas-Am Performance & Restorations.
Post the pics and your findings here.

Hi Dave 69's as well as my 69 had identical set up to the Ram Rod. But that would make sense for your car absence of washer , interesting though and that is original?

That '68 is one cool car. I can envision that car done and "sittin' pretty". Black/Red is a killer combo. GLWS
And, YES, Minore knows the '68-'69s, too. He and I discussed at great length his verifying of the small block cars.
And one more thing, whoever knows of the wrecking yard car go get it for us!

The Ram Rod has sold and it's going to a great home.
The late John Lingenfelter's brother and John himself drag raced a Ram Rod back in the day. It will undergo a complete concours restoration and is planned to be debuted at a future MCACN show.
John's brother bought it and its headed directly to the restoration facility.

It was a '68 after all, that is the pic that I saw that Wheelock (I can't remember his first name) had with him a few years ago at Homecoming, he worked for Mahle at the time down in Livonia, Mi. My buddy, who also works at Mahle (Muskegon, Mi.) knows him, and talked to him for a few minutes. Mr. Wheelock then went over to the tent area and joined the REO Olds chapter. He has since retired, and lives in the Portland, Mi. area. Shortly thereafter he was looking at a '70 W30, don't know if he bought it.
