it would be interesting to see what engine it has.

I had a similar issue come up when I had a 67 Cutlass stolen. Turned out that even though the car was recovered, the thieves had put a VIN tag on it that did not come close to matching the actual car.

From the info presented in the ad, I can't tell if this is an original car with a VIN swap or a clone. The parts we can see look correct, but the hood scoop, shifter, wing, mirrors, etc are all available repro. As Mike correctly points out, it would be important to see the engine and trans, particularly the OH tag. Upon closer inspection, note that there are no mirrors (though the ones on my car were gone when I got it) and aftermarket wheels.

How about the 69 442 vert listed there. It got punched HARD. No vin given. Looks like a real clean car, though restoration would be a challenge on this one.

Hard to tell for sure, but it appears there wasn't any mirror on the passenger side at all. Of course, a couple of small drill holes would be tough to see. I just don't see any evidence. Doesn't mean they're not there. I'm half blind anyway.
The wrinkly looking foil Hurst/Olds on the glovebox appears it could be legit. I've seen them do this where it bubbles around the edges. However, it's not a good, clear shot of it to tell for sure. Repros are different. The real ones have a clear plastic lens on them. Very thin, but it's supposed to be there. If I could get a clear enough picture of it, I can tell if it's an original or not. The wood grain is gone, so either it didn't have any there, or someone took it because it had a Hurst number plate on it.
It has idiot lights, but Rallye Pack wasn't standard. Most of the H/O's did have them though.
It appears if it's a clone, they at least got the right interior color. No rockets on the doors, though, so I suspect that is a repop door panel.
It does appear to me, anyway, that the woodgrain on the shifter top plate is from a 68 instead of the burlwood.
This needs an open hood and body plate picture. There weren't a ton of white cars with black buckets in 69. At least 442s. If it's a 50-50 or 50 50 with 930 interior...I'd lean to the swapped VIN. If it's not, then it's simply a clone. In either case, more research needed.
If it is a clone, it appears to be done fairly well, all things considered.

I talked to my brother about this. He's a retired TX DPS (state police). He talked to one of his buddies who was head of a auto theft task force in the DPS. According to him if it was a recovered stolen vehicle then Copart should be able to provide a title for it, however if the VIN tag is a fake they are supposed to remove it. I know that varies by state, but if they did remove it that seems even more problematic. I've only lived in Colorado a few years so I don't know the laws regarding this but I will try to talk to some of my local Olds club friends to see what they can tell me about it. When I get back to CO I will try to contact Copart and see if I can schedule a time to go and look at the car and will of course try to ask them the status of some of these legal questions if they can provide information on it.

Wow, while we don't know what engine or trans is in it, they did what appears to be a really nice job building a clone. A lot of little details are correct.

So that everyone knows the VIN 336879E100744 decodes as:
3 = Oldsmobile
36 = Cutlass V8
87 = 2-Door Holiday Coupe
9 = 1969 Model Year
E = Linden, New Jersey Assembly
100744 = Vehicle Production Number
It looks like it would clean up to be a great driver.
@dr.oldsjr Would you have contact info on the former owner to see what documentation he might have?

For those who are interested, this car is up for auction right and the auction ends on April 7th. Additional pictures have been added to the listing.

I have not seen the car personally, but I am told it is a nicely done clone. I understand it has a 455 and TH400, along with other "correct" goodies on the engine.

20K bid at the moment? Hmmm. A bit steep for that, but hey, I've seen more money frittered away for a lot less of a car. It does bother me a bit about the strange looking rivets holding the VIN plate on the car. Would like to see the body tag. The VIN puts it at vehicle #744 for the Linden plant, so we should imagine a 1968 date code.

Another interesting car on the same website is a 1972 442. An engine fire totaled the W-25 hood, but the rest of the parts look okay. According to the VIN, the 442 came with the optional 350 4bbl engine and dual exhaust. It also has a dual-gate shifter and factory gauges.
