69 Delta 88 Convertible

Hey all!

I'm sure this story has been told a million times, but here is mine. I've got a nice 69 Delta 88 convertible that has been in indoor storage since my father died 12 years ago. It hasn't been touched since. Prior to that it was driven regularly. Here are the details as I remember:

455 Engine, was fully rebuilt probably around 2000 (approximately) I remember over boring 030 with a Holley Projection fuel injection system.

Car is blue with white interior. Original as far as I know. Convertible top and motor were rebuilt around the same time. Probably 2000, maybe a year or two earlier.

There probably is some small rust on the rear quarter panels. Other than that I think it's pretty clean. Obviously the car will come with any of the normal maladies that result from sitting for 12 years. I don't know of any special long term storage precautions taken at the time.

My very first car was a 69 Delta 88 and this convertible was the 3rd we owned. I always thought I'd restore it. But life happens and I need to come to terms with letting it go.

I'm in the Chicago area if anyone is interested. It's not a basket case. The car was driven regularly before 2010.

The attached photo IS NOT my car, but represents the model.

A quick search shows similar models, similar era cars in good condition going for $20k. Obviously a thing is only worth what the market is willing to pay. But I hope to get a fair price. If you're interested please DM me.

Asking $10,000.

Why can't you post a picture of the car that is for sale?

I realize I am a new user with a new for sale post. I get it if that raises red flags. I can't help that. It's the nature of the internet.

I don't have any recent pics because the car has been in storage for 12 years. Along with other stuff I have not yet fully divested from my father's estate. I'm quite sure most here will understand the emotional weight of letting go of an inter generational vehicle.

If I get any serious inquiries I'll be happy to work with an interested buyer. The last picture of me or anyone in this car was not taken digitally.

I don't want to sell this car. I have to.

Please allow some latitude if I've violated any other forum rules.

I should have anticipated that a picture is worth a million words. So to show that I am real and legit I visited storage today and took these pics. All taken today.

I'm not trying to hide anything. This is the car as it has sat. Note the last registration expired 2009, confirming the story I have already told.

The rust on the left rear is the worst of it. I think the pics show that.

Yes, it's filthy. Sorry.

I'm happy to answer any questions from serious inquiries.

I hadn't thought too much about this car in the last few years. But taking these pics has rekindled some fond memories and sent me down the "car guy" rabbit hole.

Fun fact: If my research is correct, just over 5,000 Delta 88 convertibles were built in 1969. That's less than half the number of Cutlass convertibles. And just 1,000 more than 442 convertibles. That's some rarified air.

Between my father and myself, we've owned this convertible, a gold coupe and a blue Royale, all 1969.

Are you Bill Lawrence's son by chance? Bill was in IL and had one of supposedly two Delta convertibles produced with 455 and a 3-speed manual shift. Car always fascinated me.

Man that name sounds familiar. But no.

We met a random guy at a gas station once who had a 69 Delta 88 police package. If I remember correctly that car had some special exhaust manifolds that gave it true dual exhaust plus some other goodies.

Might be a long shot but my long distant memory attaches that name to that car.

All of ours were/are automatic.
