chrome removeal on convertable

throw this out there. i worked all day stripping all the chrome off my 65 olds dynamic 88 convertable in order to get ready for body work. i could not get the rear chrome piece off around the back lid that the boot snaps onto. i can see there are clips on it, but i could not get them to release. they are not like the clips on the front windshield. is anyone a little more familiar w/ these pieces and how you get them to release. thanks chris

Is there any way at all that you can get a visual of the backside of part of that? I really don't know but was just thinking that might be able to lead you in the right direction, other than getting a Factory Service Manual. Those things are invaluable.

yes you can see the back lip. i was thinking the same thing last night. i wounder if i can get my tool in behind it and slip it over the top from the back and see if it would release that way. i have all the service manuals for it. it has a section on body clips for all the olds in 65, but either you have to be smarter than me (which does not take much) or read greek, to figure out what their talking about. i will try again today. thanks chris

i figured out how to get it off. there were a couple screws on the ends on the inside and three on the outside. you just take those out and then take a small block of wood and a hammer and gentle tap on the bottom of the chrome and just back it up off the car frame.
