A little Hurst history
Linda Vaughn and the Hurst-ettes
Miss Hurst Golden Shifter. That’s the position that Linda Vaughn, pictured above with her Hurst-ettes, held in the 60s and 70s. Miss Hurst Golden Shifter was essentially a spokeswoman for George Hurst – a engineer and race car marketer. Linda Vaughn was the second-ever Miss Hurst Golden Shifter, but by far the most memorable and always a crowd favorite at any event.

She definitely is one of the sweetest people you can meet. And sharp, too. She's got a million car racing stories and her recollection of the details of events and the people who were there (by name, even) is remarkable. Such a joy to talk to and very proud of her Dalton, GA roots.

I'll see if I can find and post a few photos, I met up with Linda at the last Georgia Moonshine Show in Dalton, GA the end of last July. I had her autograph my 79 H/O glove box door, and when I spoke up the first thing she said to me was, "you're a Yankee, aren't ya", in such a pleasantly teasing voice. I was completely enamored with her true blue candor. She is still the real deal after all these years.
Guess it's still tough for me to hide my Brooklynese/NJ accent I inherited from my father even after living here in SC now for a while.
