My second car show with 442

Went to my second car show with the 442 today, another small local show with 42 cars attending. Judging was by spectators. Proud to say I got best of show. People act like they have never seen a 442 in real life The beautiful 67 SS396 beside me got second place.

Congratulations on taking Best Of Show. You have a beautiful 4-4-2. C'mon now, you're in Whiteville - a trip to Lumberton or Wilmington might be a once/year event. I wouldn't expect most to have ever seen a 4-4-2.

About 6 weeks ago they had a car show in Leland which is just across the river from Wilmington. 150+ cars and no 65-67 442's, seen one 71 Cutlass. Riverfest in Wilmington is a big show and I have never seen one there. I 've been going to "Run to the Sun" in Myrtle Beach (1000+ cars) almost every year and have never seen a 65-67 442 there. Went to high school in Lumberton and know just about everybody...no 65-67 442". But I will say Lumberton is where I first fell in love with tri-power 442's, just took me 58 years to get my own. I have owned plenty of Chevelles and Camaros over the years, bought several brand new but always wanted a 442.

Funny you mention Lumberton. We stopped in Jay's Country Kitchen for breakfast on the way back from Hot Rod Drag Week 2 weekends ago. It's a cute little town and the locals loved hearing a big block Olds rumbling around town on a Saturday morning. 😁
Nice 67!

I've done my share of rumbling on those streets How did you find it and how was the food?

It was good, exactly as expected. I found it on an internet search while coming up 95 (I was navigator). Half the fun of road trips is finding cool places to eat.

Some of "those" guys who grew up driving in the 1960s recall when the 4-4-2 was first released in '64 & an automagic was not available. The terms used to describe a 4-4-2 did change during the developmental years.

You're welcome. It would be a blast to have both our cars at the same show. You know they're having the OCA Nationals in Springfield, MO next season. You could head over here to St. Louis for a stop over, then we could convoy to Springfield the next day. Wouldn't that be a sight, two '67 4-4-2's cruising down the highway together!

Yes, I had someone argue with me over that once. He was old, and not of a political disposition to own a muscle car, but he was trying to flex. I said I could go get it (mine) and we could terrorize the neighborhood, but he turned me down.

When I bought my '67 4-4-2 in 1969, the one my father picked out for me, because I dropped the drive shaft in his '64 Buick Wildcat one too many times (evidently I was becoming an economical burden on auto expenses for the family), I told my friends it was an automatic. My motor head friends told me it couldn't be a 4-4-2 if it had an automatic. They were mostly into foreign cars, Chevrolet & Pontiac. They had to wipe the grins off their faces.

I was mostly joshing w/ James. You're probably correct. BTW, what's the difference between an assload & a shitload - I've never figured that one out.

A buttload = 48 bushels, equivalent to 384 gallons, so I assume an assload = a buttload.

Harold Wells probably sold his share of them and Charles Dew did also, but Vann is not that old. He was a teenager in 67. Vann does have 3 Cutlasses now, 70 convertible, 71 convertible, and a 71 hardtop.

Don't we all brother, don't we all! Tell ya what though, if I'm ever headed your way I'll give ya a heads-up. Nothing I'd enjoy more than meeting you and seeing that beautiful car in person.

I went to a car show "Broadway at the Beach" (Myrtle Beach, SC) today as a spectator. Around 1,000+ cars. I walked for hours looking and there were some cars and trucks that would make your mouth water. I seen 5 Cutlass cars there, 2 68's, 70, and 2 72's, and 1 65 442 that was real nice. But not a single 66 or 67!
The Chevy C10's were there in full force!

Sorry, I'm not much of a picture taker but I'm sure someone did and when I find them I will repost. I'm not a professional like Dream67Olds442 who does a terrific job of it.
