Not truly Olds-related, but the plate on my '68 4-4-2 is the one that was issued to my dad when he registered the car in Washington State in April 1971.

I can see where yours may be there, but mine are on the bumpers, not the hood!

Interesting combo -
"Old school" or "Olds cool"
I like it!

If custom plates here in TX weren't so costly, I would get some...

Ohio raised the personalized plate fee - I got my renewal, and the price is now $104.50!!!! I went last Saturday and got an Historical plate and year of mfg. plate for the Cutlass - $23.75, and never has to be renewed again!!! I will miss the MYCUTLS plate, though... Don't know if I'll keep the one on the Intrigue or get it changed to a regular plate. I hate to give the state that kind of money.

POS Bravada had RKTRDR for a long time. Hurst has 58THNDY.

The Ninety Eight wore I8JAPAN till I put the antique plates on it.

Right now they're fairly cheap in Vajenya, but with a state trying to grab all the money it can, I expect them to go up soon. They've already jacked up the antique plate fee by nearly 500%, though it IS a permanent registration plate and we don't have to renew them annually. Give 'em time and I'm sure they'll tune up that noise too.

NYS charges too much for personalized plates so I won't buy them. Two years I think is $185. I still have regular plates on it but I have extra 1971 plates and will probably switch it over to them eventually. It will be a lot cheaper.

Michigan also allows correct year plates to be put on the car for a one time only fee so that is the route I go.

But...... On my Suburban I have "Hark"

When I had my Solstice GXP I had "IEATV8S

Here in jersey you can go either Vanity plate for a one time $100(?) fee plus normal registration fees from then on yearly... or you can get historic plates for a one time fee and you can get them vanity too, but it'll always be suffixed by QQ. All one time fee for historic plates, then it's registration every 3 years free of charge, lets see how much longer that lasts.
Funny story, back in 85 when my dad put QQ's on his 60 Plymouth, QQ's were forever registered... Well when they went to computer records, they lost some of the QQ plated car records! Well since sometime around 1989-1990 the car didn't exsist. They lost the registration records, title records, the vin never exsisted according to them. A cop friend ran the plate and it came up as not unregistered but NON EXSISTANT!
We had to take the forever registration (faded to nearly a blank piece of paper, this was 2007) to the dmv and get them to re-enter it in the system. They wanted us to bring the car to the trenton main dmv hub, uh yeah right... Anyway after a long fight, we finally got the car to be recognized as exsisting... And now we have 3 year reregistration.

Anyway we have a vanity plate on my dad's t/a. It reads (QQ) TA TOY... get it?

Most people don't. "awwww, how cute, tah toy"... No... T/A Toy....

In Germany, there's no such thing as vanity plates. IF you're lucky & that combo is available, you can get something like:

Bir-O442 (my '65 442)
Bir-Z4 ('92 Camaro Z28) or,

Not really for an Olds site, but there are2 or 3 Mustang owners that live in the county of Starnberg (near Munich). Their license plates start w/ STA-NG!

The first 2 or 3 letters indicate the county the car is registered in.

Other than combos like that, Nothing!

What's all this about Nigeria... They're poor. South Africa is where it's at. I'm waiting for the money as we speak. It's currently in escrow waiting for their service payment... Only 10% of 54 million!

I had the same deal. I told them to take the $10K out of my share and send the rest. One sent me a cheque for too much (not 442much). Told me to cash the cheque and send him the rest. I said that Canadian banks require bribing the tellers about $200 but I didn't have $200 . If he could send me the cash, I could send him his money. He didn't buy it either.

Okay, if you say so. But it doesn't look like a fight to me. It looks like pushing rope. With the same results and the same waste of time.

That's what it's about. I even have them call me at work. Since I am famous around the office for doing excellent East Indian, French, English, German, Scottish, Irish, Italian, Jewish, Russian, American (southern with some NYC and New England) and Doug and Bob Canadian, I instantly introduce them to Sukdeep Manboi, Dink Winkerson, Phil MaCrackin, Morty Lipshitz or the Russian, Dr. Whobiturcocoff. However, I think we've hijacked the thread but not purposely. So, personalized or vanity plates are about $218 here. I heard in the UK they can cost more than the car!

California DMV is always an adventure. Seems like most employees are pre-disposed to argue no matter what your issue is. And lots of weird rules. Note that the "70" contains the letter "O", not zero...no zeroes allowed in vanity plates.

I'm looking into something for my car. Did a little poking around on the web and AB has a registry that allows me to license my car with it's year of production license plates. Its called the YOM law (Year of manufacture). Once the plate is registered to the vehicle, it becomes a permanent plate. I don't believe it has to be renewed, but have to check the registries to find out. I already have original license plates for my 72. I will only run the legal one on the back. Licensing in AB only has one plate; on the rear of the car. I just got a dealer OLDSMOBILE display plate off ebay, but had to pay 52 bucks for it and it will be going on the front.
