You bet it's cold
My car show friend from South Dakota, Bob called the other night for our monthly phone visit, I was complaining about our wet cold weather, some snow, lots of rain and my cars were all bundled up for the last month and unusable, when he reminded me that it was - 40 at his house, and it was warming up! He wears a mask if he needs to go out to his garage so he doesn't burn his lungs. Then people ask me why I live in California. I quit feeling sorry for my self and sent him a pair of thermal socks.
How's your winter going?...Tedd

Brutal here in St. Louis, morning low of -5°F yesterday with a high of 8°. A virtual heatwave this morning with a low of -1°, and I think we're supposed to make it to the low teens this afternoon. At least the roads are clear here, we've barely got a dusting on the ground. I grew up in Michigan, so relatively this isn't bad, but I still hate it!

Woke up this morning and it was 1. By the time I got ready and got to the truck to head to work, it was 0.Neither of which are factoring in the wind.
Whenever it gets this cold I send a text to my buddy from school who now lives it FL..gotta keep him in check with his roots. haha

They were very helpful on ice. But some northern states banned them after seeing the wear they created on the pavement.

It was 10° when I got up this morning. It is now 21° and the high today is supposed to be 23° today. It will no be above freezing until Wednesday. We had a light dusting of snow this morning.

Yes, that's true. What's odd though is that states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois that get a ton of snow have all banned them completely, while many more southern states still allow them from Oct/Nov until Mar/Apr. Go figure?
#17
That's because all of those southern roads are dirt or gravel. Studded tires actually help.

I'm glad that my parents left Alaska when I was a wee tyke. The thing about rear wheel drive back then was, even with snow tires it took 30 seconds to get through an intersection after the light turned green. You might get two or three cars through by the time that it turned red. Took forever. Still snowing and blowing here, so I took the two lane home instead of the highway. Ran about 50 mph on a glazed roadway. Currently sitting at 14" on my snow gauge. Other areas in W. Michigan got up to two feet.

No doubt. With a freezing point of -10°F, hyd. fluid has the consistency of Mississippi mud (tar oil) @ 0°F. I know specialized equipment i.e. snow plows, large rig tow trucks, etc. have heated reservoirs. Doubtful garbage trucks have heated reservoirs.

-4 here this AM in central Mn.
Weird thing about this year is we had about 4-5" of snow early in Oct.
All melted by Nov. and didnt get any till maybe 2 weeks ago.
Still only have about 3" on the ground.
Heck, people were water skiing and jet biking on the lakes new years day.

No picture because I ate it, but my mom sent me home with several frozen servings of her lentil soup. Excellent cold weather meal, and you get auxiliary heat for several hours as you digest all the beans.

We have had a run of below zero Temps here in Denver. The wind blowing makes it even worse. -19 this morning. Today we got above freezing. Long overdue. My husky loves it.
