How does the center vent duct come off to remove the dash speaker?

There's an extension of the duct work for the center vents. It seems loose but catching on something I think on the top where I can't see. Just want to make sure I don't break it. Is there a tab or release on top or do I just need to wiggle and pull more?

This is where it really helps to tell us the year and model of the Oldsmobile you are working on.

There is a peg in the center top that holds it to the upper half. The chassis manual shows it in detail. Take a medium-large screwdriver to get in between the parts and rotate so the peg clears the hole. An inspection mirror can be used to help you see where it is.
Upon reassy, you might want to put some thin self adhesive weatherstrip in between the two parts to mainly reduce rattles and maybe get a tad more air from the center vents (may not even be noticeable).
There is also supposed to be a foam pad over the ashtray so the duct rests on it to reduce rattles. That pad is probably deteriorated. I think it was either 1/4" or 3/8" open cell foam.

Full disclosure, I added that after the year inquiry. However, I would have assumed people would think Cutlass unless specified if I'm posting to the Cutlass forum.

Thanks Lady72nRob71. That should help a lot.

That doesn't mean its the car he's working on. I've got a '68 Cutlass and an '87 442 in my sig, but I ask a lot of questions about a '49 98 and I will be asking questions about a '78 Starfire. I have learned more than once that it's not a good idea to assume things. The fact that it is in the Cutlass forum is valid though. I generally don't even notice what forum the questions are in as I always enter through the New Posts section. I need to start paying better attention to the top of the posts.

I didn't state it as gospel truth for the very same reason.
