1977 cutlass brougham

I am restoring my 77 cutlass brougham from the ground up. I am going to play with the engine, send away to get 400 ponies out of it. Now with that HP do I have to do any thing to the trany or rear end

What trans does it have? If it is anything but a TH400 I would say it needs to be built to handle it. If it was me I would have even the 400 rebuilt to take the higher power. I would probably switch to a 200R4? that is built to take it and gain overdrive also. You will probably have to upgrade or swap the rear also if you plan to take real advantage of the power you are adding .

There were no TH400s installed in 1977 Cutlii. Even the 403 was bolted to a TH350.
