Paint color for rear end/axle
Here we go! Just ordered a rear disc brake conversion kit along with the Disc/disc prop valve for Absolute Autowerks to install (be delivered Friday). I've been up at the shop yesterday removing/cleaning the rear end/axle out of a '71 FlatTop wagon, as the SB's is getting nosier every day. Question is: what color to paint the pumpkin and axles?????? Appreciate any thoughts. Remember, the SB IS NOT put together as a perfectly stock "68, so it does not have to be an exact match. Front discs already installed, and front end rebuilt!!!!

Hi Aron,
The complete rear end on my '68 4-4-2 has always been black. My history on this car goes back to when it was one year old when my dad bought it in March 1969. When we did the restoration in 2007, the rattle can color "GM Chassis Black" was what I would call dead-on. I believe Seymour makes that product. If you are looking for the all-stock look, GM Chassis Black should do it.
Best Regards,
Randy C.

Exactly.
The factory puffed a tiny hint of black at the rear with a perfume atomizer.
All signs of it were probably gone within weeks of purchase.
If you give it a nice smooth paint job with a low gloss chassis black, you'll be painting it about a hundred times better (and with a hundred times more paint) than the factory ever did.
