Rear end interchangeability

Rear end interchangeability
My googling didnt give me accurate answer.
Is the rear under 76 Cutlass ( 8.5" 10-bolt) interchangeable with a rear under 77-84 C-body? Attaching points-wise etc. Width? Question arose since the frames are virtually same from my understanding. And i may have something going.
Thanks.

Yes, BUT wheel bolt pattern and lower control arm bolts could be different hurdles.
5x5 to 5 on 4.75
diameter bolts on the control arms. metric full size a body etc.
all mounting point should be the same sedans
!!!!!! EXCEPT WAGON !!!!!!! they are wider than the sedan rears.

Thank you, alot!
Would the carrier and gears change over between housings, IF the C-body rear happens to be 8.5?

10 bolt 8.5 corporate rears are all the same from 1971 - 1987
28 spline
bolt in axle rears can use both c-clip and bolt in axle carriers posi or open
c-clip rears must use the c-clip carrier posi or open
so, yes.

Also interchangeable for the 73-77 A body cars is 77-96 B Body 8.5. Easy way to tell in most cases is the 5x5 bolt pattern. Most light duty cars got the 7.5" rear with a 4.75x5 bolt pattern.
Mounting points are all the same (except wagon springs) however, the bushings for the lower control arms are larger so you will have to use a spacer to pick up the gap if you're using the A-Body control arms.
Bolt pattern can be resolved using a drill guide from Hells Gate Hot Rods OR purchasing new axles (SVL-2022589-3).
