Not even close. The 8.2 axle was used in the 64-up A-body cars. Your 98 uses the 57-64 style axle with the replaceable center section like a Ford 9".

My 64 98 also has the 3.23 rear gears. I think these gears are better than the gears commonly available in later B and C bodies. Combined with a Slim Jim that works correctly this ratio is good for highway cruising and acceleration (for a lead sled).

old 98 rear

You have a 9.3 drop out pontiac / olds rear. They called these the old gasser rears. They used them in narrowed rears for heavy duty drag racing.

3.23 is a very good ratio and highly sought after I would say.

your axle spline count should be 31 and the pinion yoke spline count will be 13

the pig (drop out center) will be held on with 10 studs and 10 nuts.
ring gear will have 12 bolts with 3/8" bolts having right hand thread 24 thread per inch count.

Ring gear diiameter is 9.3 and the pinion shaft diameter is 1.875 where the inner bearing presses on.

The u-joint is held in with 2 u-bolts and 4 lock washers and nuts.

Hope this info help you find what you need. Jim
