1976 Olds 88 Crown Landau

I looking for the plastic trim that goes around the Landau vinyl roof on a 1976 Olds 88. Would anyone know if this is available anywhere in the aftermarket world. It is chrome in color. Thanks.

I'm scratching my head here, since it's been so long since I've seen a Landau up close I can't remember what that trim looked like.

My guess is that Hurst itself used some type of aftermarket chrome plastic moulding when they converted the cars, since RPO vinyl top Deltas had that painted textured metal outline moulding.

Here's what Dealer Information Bulletin 76-I-3 issued 8/29/75 says:

"When warranty work becomes necessary on 1976 AE1 (Hurst Hatch Roof, A57 bodystyles) and Y61 (Crown Landau Roof, BN57 bodystyles) options, it will be necessary for the Oldsmobile dealer to submit a claim to Hurst for work done involving either one of the options.

When a malfunction/failure occurs, dealer is to call Hurst Special Vehicles Manager collect for prior approval. The problem will be diagnosed and necessary parts furnished to the dealer as well as complete installation instructions where necessary. Dealer will send a bill to Hurst for installation labor or in case of a Crown Landau top cover, the sublet bill from the top shop for repair or replacement."

That tells me Hurst had its own source for this stuff. The Y61 items specifically covered by the Hurst warranty were the padded top, the 6" wide stainless steel panel, related mouldings and emblems, and the interior 1/4 trim panels.

Good luck. You might find a trim shop specialising in ghetto conversions who can get the moulding you need, or a close replacement. 'Course they'll also try to convince you to put 22's on it...

Olds 88 Crown Landau Trim

Thank-you so much for the info. The Hurst Olds website appears to be focused on 442's and Cutlasses. This moulding looks like it would come off a roll. I've had no luck searching the web for it. I'll keep looking. Thanks again.

1976 Crown Landau 88

My parents bought one of these new in 1976 complete with the 455 4bbl engine. They also had a 1972 Delta 88 with the 455 4bbl and the '72 would clean the clock of the '76 in a drag race all day long. This particular Crown Landau was the one year only GM lime green paint (how I wish I had it now) and an eye popping white vinyl with lime green carpet interior. Even in the late 1970's the bits and pieces of the stainless steel trim would fall off and have to be glued back on. Hurst definitely had some QC issues back then. They sold the '76 in 1985 to a neighbor kid and who beat the hell out of it and after he moved out no one saw the car again.
