72 taillight wire diagram

I'm re wiring the taillights, I have green and brown on both sides. Which colors does what? Building the harness away from the car so can't use a test light right now to test.

Here is a 72 wiring diagram

You have a green and brown for the right side but the left side should be yellow and brown. The brown is for the tail lights and the yellow and green are brake/turn signals.

How are you building a harness without a factory wiring diagram?

both sides are green and brown. There's no yellow wire anywhere.

That would be incorrect, or someone has mucked with it previously. The turn/brake wires to the rear lights have to be different circuits, otherwise both sides would flash when you put the turn signal on. Light green is backup lights.

it's all original. When I get home tonight I'll post some pics. That's why I was confused

Apparently it isn't all original. In any case, the colors are irrelevant. What matters is that the turn/stop filaments in the LH 1157 bulbs are connected to the LH rear terminal on the turn signal switch, and the RH turn/stop filaments are connected to the RH rear terminal.

Excaclty which wires are you looking at? The harness in the trunk has a yellow and brown wire on the left and a green and brown wire on the right as stated above. However, the wires coming from the tail lights that plug into that harness are brown and green on both sides. The unit below is a 70, but the wiring is the same on a 71-72. Are you looking at the wires in the actual harness in the trunk, or are you looking at the wires under the car in the bumber area?

both. The harness in the trunk has green, brown, light green. Absolutely no Yellow. Its original old wiring, and everything works correctly I was just confused when my directions was talking about a Yellow wire which is why I made the post. I'll add pics of the trunk harness tonight so everyone can see what I'm talking about. I know I'm not going crazy.lol

From the factory the left turn/brake wire is yellow. If there is no yellow wire, someone in the past has made some repairs or modifications.

Has the car ever been wired for a trailer plug?

Look at the taillight harness connector near the fuse box, I bet you find a yellow wire there.
