This is attached to the coil. One suggestion was that it's just a noise supressor for the radio, but I'm not sure. It looks like a condenser, but it's not hooked up. Where does that lead that's just dangling there attach?

Does a '67 Delta 88, 425 2-bbl use a condenser? I cannot find a mention of it in the service manual. But Autozone, for example, sells a condenser for this car. I presume they wouldn't sell it if it wasn't a needed part.

This one looks like it's kind of shot, anyway, and a new one is only about $6.00, so I can certainly put another one in.

What are the consequences if this is a condenser and it's not hooked up? The engine starts and runs fine.

If you don't run a condensor you will eat points faster.

To the points side of your coil.

Thanks. I apologize for the dumb questions, but is that the positive or negative side of the coil? One wire attaching to the coil comes from the distributor. Is that where the condenser attaches?

No such thing as a dumb question. I said "points side" because I also forgot if it is the + or - side.

Like I said, one wire going to the coil comes from the distributor. The other comes from the wiring harness. I'm guessing that the one from the distributor is the one I want.

A condenser is just another term for capacitor. The important one is across the points, usually under the disty cap. This one must stay. It looks like yours may have been externally mounted...

You may also have a condenser on the horn relay coil circuit and the voltage regulator to eliminate radio noise.

Exactly what it is. The values are different than the ones used (under the cap, attached to the points) in ignition systems.

So what you are saying is that I do NOT need to buy a new one of these and attach it where this one was? The condenser I'm thinking about is under the distributor cap, and it's probably been working fine because, as I say, the car starts and runs fine?

Only if you have an RFI problem.

The only reason to replace this condenser is for a radio noice problem or if you are trying to get things back to original. Hope this helps!

Actually, the radio doesn't work and is out of the car while I figure out what I'm going to do about it, so I've never had a chance to see if there is ignition noise. (I've had the car only since the end of June.)
