This will absolutely not fit into a GM A body right. Specifically, a

I was afraid of that. I was at the local Pull a Part and they have a 65 Starfire there. I looked underneath and saw the little tag hanging off of it that says,
"Use limited slip oil" and I got excited. I ought to go and save it before it ends in the shredder!

But I would think that to be an unusual piece. If the price was right, you might be able to sell or swap it and get what you need.

I just read your reply... if you have room please save it!!!!!

Still installed in a 65 Starfire convertible sitting at a junkyard. Anyone
want to swap it out for a A body posi rearend?

If so, I will certainly go and retrieve it first thing in the morning.

find now days. Let me know. Eric

Too far for me, would be real desireable if a 342 ratio..... standard is a 323 and AC cars usually got 308's.

Can you please tell me where (if) it's stamped on the rear end and what
numbers to look for? Thanks. Greatly appreciated.

There should be a 2 letter stamp on RT side axle tube about 8 inches where tube exits center section. It should be at the back and you prob have to scrape rust to see it.... I dont have a 65 shop manual to decode the letters on the tube. Since it is a posi you can jack the rear and spin the wheel one time while counting driveshaft revolutions. You must jack both rear wheels off the ground and be in neutral.

posi codes

I see that when I cut and pasted the codes they came out goofey.
the first code is the open rears and the second code are for the posi units.

Guess Eric lost interest. I just saw this car a few days ago and posted the "65 Conv starfire at the yard" thread some of you may have seen. I didn't see the posi tag but I did spin the wheels and they both went the same direction. It's in my garage now. Haven't opened it up. I just hope someone didn't weld the gears together to make it "a posi".

I checked the code on the tube and it's a QH which is the standard 3:23.

Can the posi carrier in this 65 unit be swapped into a 68-72 A body (Lemans) rear end?
