1968 Chassis Service Manual binding

I have three copies of the 1968 CSM, and every single one of them is coming apart at the binding. This one I just saw on ebay (for a stupid money starting bid) jogged my memory, as one of mine came apart completely and I ended up punching the pages to put it in a three ring binder. I have CSMs from just about every year from 1961-85, and this has only happened with the 1968 edition. I wonder if there was something wonky in at the printer that year. Anybody else have this problem?

Every 68 CSM I've seen does it. I've read somewhere in the past it was a problem when the books were new.

Don't have mine handy to see who printed the 68. Lansing Lithographers did the Olds manuals for decades.

Between here and AACA my 66 has gotten enough workout the last few months I had to tape the back cover on it!

You guys should have those manuals memorized by now so you don’t have to open them

Memory is the second thing to go... and I can't remember the first.

Fires during the riots pre-cured the binding adhesive. Or at least something was wrong with the binding adhesive that year.

In the past, I have sent my books off to a professional bookbinder/restorer with great results.

Likewise, a couple of my 1968 manuals do this. My '69 does not. FWIW, I don't use the '69 nearly as much.

I had two 68 Manuals, one the pages were coming loose, but the binding was not completely destroyed, Someone did buy it from me at the nationals one year... The other I still have and is in fairly good condition, very clean and no loose pages as yet... Top edge of binding is starting to separate slightly....
