1970 442 rear springs painted?
I'm detailing the rear axle on my 1970 442 and was wondering if the coil springs are suppose to be painted. I think the ones that are in it are replacements and are black painted.

Been contemplating the same, as to how far will the metal twist, bend or move before that paint will yield and crack. A light cover coat will allow more movement than a heavy thick coat. All that and I am just going to spray the front sway bar, which at 53 years old only has a light rust color. I am not sure if it was ever painted, it doesn't look like it ever was.

A common practice. GM A body cars have the same basic underpinnings. Except for the engine and cosmetics like interior and body style, it is the same car. The same tooling can be used for assembly. Similarly, the F body cars (Camaro and Firebird) were built on the same line as well.

I have had quite a few orig cars over my years. The rear springs could be either painted or bare, having said that i found the vast majority of them being painted black. This holds true across the GM abody line.NOW as far as the fronts they as well have been seen bare or black BUT the vast majority of the fronts have been bare.
