bad steering gear

Anybody have this happen to them???
My ps pump has so much pressure on it that it makes the belt squeal/slip. it seems the steering gear is the problem cause I know the pump is good and the belt is a newer one. Anyway to verify the gear is the problem I will disconnect the lines and run it, if the belt doesn't squeal, its the gear. I have never of this problem before.

Never had that issue, excess noise from the p/s steering pump happened twice to me in the past. First time was due to a loose belt, loosened the bolt pulled the pump tight and tightened the bolt, problem solved. Second time was due to using Power Steering Fluid in an older GM pump, drained out PS Fluid and put in Transmisson Fluid and magically the sound was gone afterwards....

Are you getting correct belt tension on the PS belt? Joe p detailed the hard to see/access bolts on the PS reservoir to properly tighten the PS belt. Iirc there are three bolts to loosen to adj the PS belt
