Just your "average Taxi" right……..WRONG
Oh yes…. It'sintentionally designed to look like a taxi, no markings etc.
Note the red lights, front & rear view mirror area.
The roof sign actually says "Police"
This is the latest in POLICE RADAR CARS….. In use in
Georgetown & Milton areas.

That is a dirty trick. But I don't go fast enough for tickets hardly ever anymore and I live in Oregon so I am safe for now.

A few years ago in MD. I saw the best trap. A state roads truck, 3 guys leaning on shovels and 1 guy with a radar gun set up to look like a surveyor. A 1/2 mile down the road 6 cop cars with about 10 cars pulled over.

I like it, they probably bought ex taxi cabs or they want to make some extra cash on the side running fares.
The Cleveland cops used to have Furd wagons with push bars in the 70's.
In the winter it was 15 bucks to push you out of the snow and ten for a jump, either that or they would give you a twenty five dollar ticket for impeding traffic.
Poor cab drivers will have everybody going five miles under the speed limit in front of them now. My numerous cop relatives hate that more than anything... except one or two, and it's all good.
My nephew just turned cop, his dad (the lieutenant) retired so it wouldn't look like nepotism.

If I had a taxi company up there in the frozen arctic northern tundra country I would have all my cabs converted over to look like cop cars.

It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. "

I totally disagree with deceptive law practices.

The vehicle in the OP's post is okay though because it has lights still.

To be honest, that's how cops end up getting shot IMO

.....and it's not unjustified either. Thieves have been known to dress as FBI
and Police and try to rob people. http://www.dirkbradshaw.com/?p=236803

They should only be using official police vehicles to do their jobs.

Imagine being a Citizen trying to protect yourself seeing someone jumping out of a garbage truck saying they are a cop pointing a weapon at you.....and you have a CCW permit. Lets not be unrealistic and say police never make mistakes either.....I can post 100's of instances of bad intel.

If you ask me that's pretty nice, and you should be grateful.
Considering around here you are forced out of your vehicle while they call for a
tow if you're broke down. City makes way more money on tows then offering jumps......

I'm sure there were idiots that tried to blame police for helping, and it became a hassle too.

It makes perfect sense that the cops drive taxis. After all, they drive as recklessly as taxi drivers do: speeding, no turn signals, rolling stops, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I do all that stuff, too. I just have troubles respecting any officer that drives like that one minute then gives someone a ticket the next.

i agree with you 100%!!

there are good honest cops and ALOT of crooked no good cops, i just hate that cops can do anything they want and get away with it unless its caught on camara and even when its caught on tape they still lie and say he was resisting arrest in cuffs so i broke his jaw, nose and arm!! im so glad so many cops are getting caught on camara!! they get good money and they abuse there power!! its against there code 2 tell on another cop for breaking the law if they do there a wistle blower and black balled!! look at the cop in oakland who shot the cuffed man in the back while he was on the ground he got manslaghter he got a slap on the wrist!! let me shoot a cop on accident ill get the death penality!!

Yea, but have you actually seen it happen? Moreover, if you have, do you wish you hadn't? :P

I did when the law first came into effect but not since. You are correct though I blocked most of them out of my memory.

Sorry, kids, but this is all old news. Back in 1980 (apparently before most of you were born) the Mass. state police used a brown unmarked Chevy van as a radar car on the Mass Pike. I saw it with my own eyes. I'm also sure this was not the first such radar car platform.

Pathetic. Guess they got nothing better to do, no real crime going on I guess... so let me getz my quota, even if it someone only 5 over the speed limit. Earlier today, a gray van pulled over someone in Hamilton which I hadn't seen before.

These cops are just asking for trouble b/c some might get suspicious of impersonation (and it has happened around here) and might not stop at all until in a public area or calling 911.

When I first moved to Edmonton the police cars were yellow. When one pulled up and stopped at the light I was at the corner. I opened the back door and jumped in. They didn't say a word, when I looked up and saw it was cops the cop in the passenger seat said "Yes sir, can we help you?" They must have seen the look on my face and started laughing. When I asked where the train station was and tried to get out (the door wouldn't open), the driver said "Sit back, we'll take you there." And they did!

Not safe anywhere I guess. Fortunately around here, the speed limit is 55 but no one seems to get pulled over unless there going over 75 on the highways. It's the side roads you have to worry about, it seems that's where all the police set up their speed traps.

I can't complain about speed traps around my hometown Chicago.

Around here the acceptable speed limit on the expressways is routinely 75-80mph in the fast lanes. No joke. Even though the signs posted say 55mph. It was a culture shock coming home from Seattle where I was stationed for 3 years where EVERYONE only did 5mph over the speed limit. Cops out there would nail you QUICK!!! Just like North Carolina......they dont' speed much out there either.

That's actually pretty funny.

Always has been. But yes, even moreso now that states are hurting financially after the recession and housing bubble blowout. They were raking in TONS of extra revenue from extortionate gasoline pricing, overinflated housing prices, etc etc.

Now when both took a dump, states didn't know how to recede their budgets to pre-bubble status. Add to that all the social safety nets being overloaded.....Welfare, Food Stamps, Unemployment claims, etc. So enforcement is up, and people are contesting their property taxes asking for re-evalutations and the states are trying to fight it tooth and nail. I was graciously let go by a local officer recently though for speeding. Luckily I was in my Lexus with my Veterans plates. He asked if I was military, I said "Yes sir", and he told me to have a good day and slow down.

I wanted to buy him breakfast to say thanks, but figured he wouldn't accept it.
