If $140 is too much for a cam, you may have chosen the wrong hobby.

One of the factory Olds cams mentioned earlier (such as the 307 VIN-Y) would be better as the factory cams have an early intake closing which builds cylinder pressure, which is needed on a low compression engine. The Melling is OK but not optimal.

I found this on the G-Body forum:

https://gbodyforum.com/threads/83-84...cations.88322/

“Additionally, about the only close aftermarket cam that meets these specs are the Sealed Power CS-651 cam. Those specs I can find are as follows:
Lift at valve: intake .440", exhaust .442"
Duration @ .050: intake 194, exhaust 207
Lobe separation: 109”

This site shows the Melling MC1287 is the same grind as the CS-651. It also lists the other manufacturers part numbers for that same grind.

I know that Mark (@cutlassefi) recommends a single pattern cam for a performance BBO build. I wonder if that would be extended to include a more conservative SBO build?

That's weird

I been trying to get the same camshaft from advanced auto as its 119 plus the sunshine code gives 20% but they don't wanna sale me one or order it they say their discontinued but googling it says their in stock till you click it . So I tried jegs price match and I think it's gonna work? I put in the URL and the price of 101.99 plus free shipping but they didn't wanna do free shipping so to get free shipping I'd have to spend more money . So I put lifters in my cart . So since y'all posted that cam I guess it's a winner?? Same specs as the 307 h.o. vin 9 cam ..
should I shoot for it???

$200 for cam and lifters.. price matched with advanced auto parts

Can you combine threads? As there's great information in this thread too.. but I got the motor..see in my other thread.i posted the stamped code . I'm also waiting to see what efi says about the cam I found . Others say it was a huge improvement but low on vacuum? I'm hoping their bad vacuum wasn't because of the cam as I need vacuum too I'm sure..
Everyone please reply on other thread for now on .
Olds if you can please combine my threads

Almost together

Mark said I'm better off just leaving it alone for now.. so I will..

Pass side looks like it's been rebuilt with new valve sleeves.. and not run much after.. but....

This side was left alone ..doesn't make sense unless trying to save a few bucks..30 yrs ago it would have been cheap to do the other side too... My dad picked the matte black paint.. I wanted gloss. But whatever.. Intakes on.thermostat in and painted of water neck ..valve covers next.. then I'll bore scope it and post pics here.. new starter coming soon .$30 off eBay..(guy wanted $50 lol)

30+ replies in one thread and 50+ in the other. No need to have 2 threads in which you post the same thing. I merged the threads again.

BTW, the pic of your painted engine looks pretty close to International Harvester Gray on my browser. A good color if I do say so myself.

This seems reasonable.

Yea im not doing a fast car . Plus I gotta stay below a certain hp and torque due to the 80s fwd transmission.. but I have less then $400 in my motor now . So that remaining money can go to a candy apple red paint job 😉🤗

Valve covers came in..

Valve covers on..
I know starter bolts go in bell housing for fwd but does anyone know what sizes. When I look online they always give me 3 different sizes... I still haven't taken the motors out my car or the parts car yet as it is hot and my dad hasn't been feeling good and moving the engine crane is hard to do alone as I don't have a slab or garage yet at my house. My motor is in my dads storage bend now.. the pistons are deep dish btw..low compression.. but with intake and dual exhaust I'm hoping to be around 290-300lbs torque..
