A few pictures from the MCACN 2013

Here are a few snap shots I took this year at the Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals. This is just a small taste of how much fun this show is. I've heard about it for the past couple years, and I'm glad I took the weekend to go check it out myself, well worth the drive. Awesome show! Enjoy a the pics

The 442 with the Toro wheels is a front wheel drive 442 with a Toronado drivetrain.Long story short, George Hurst is the one that wanted the build the car this way to show advantages of a front wheel drive performace car.

unfortunately, the wheel wells severely limited the traction that could be achieved by the front wheels. the largest tire that bill(the owner of 42 years) could run was a 205-width. he tried 235's but the tires would scrub the wheel wells during turns, especially with bumps.

the disadvantage of a fwd performance car is that when the drive tires break loose, your steering goes bye-bye too. bill did say that this car was a dream to drive in 8" of snow, the rear end didn't get weird at all. since he had owned a '68 toronado before he found this car, he knew how to drive a fwd'er in the snow, instinctively. bill is a really great guy to talk to, too.

That 66 W30 aircleaner is such a weird, beautiful thing. Although I guess I'd rather have a 67 W-30, all things considered, the rarity of the 66, and the three carb OAI makes it a wonderful sight. I wonder if there are 3 filter elements in there.

Although I doubt the Swedish Bikini Team made an appearance, could one say that it doesn't get any better than this?

Thanks for the photos, guys.

The air cleaner shroud for the 66 has three bases like the small air cleaners used welded into it, with three small filters, same as the separate cleaners use. However, early shrouds like that one are about 1/4" shorter than the late ones so the filters must be squashed a little so the top will close onto the bottom. The original filters were screen with foam, so the factory easily pressed the screens down a little. The shrouds were stamped in Kirksite (lead-based alloy) dies at Demmer Tool and Die in Lansing and were not as well formed as the second run of shrouds.

That sounds right. I happened to walk up to the car when Ron Memmer was there. So he told me a little about what Ron K went through to buy the car.
