Heater Core Removal
#4
There is one nut way under the fender in an area where small hands are required. Use a light and a mirror and you can see it. By the way this is the only time that you will be happy not having A/C.
Then get in the car and remove the heater box from under the dash.

I loosened all the bolts to the inner fender so I could get to one of the bolts, if that is the one you are talking about. There is one bolt on top behind the fender that I wonder how I am going to get it started back in without removing the hood and fender. It is as tight as can be. Does anyone out there know if there are more than 5 nuts and 2 bolts to that application?

I have found nuts between the inside and outside heater boxes. It's as if they put nuts on to hold the inside box in place until the outside box was put in place, and just left the nuts there. The seam sealer made it all waterproof.
Good Luck,
Mike

I did get the interior heater box out and got at the leaky heater core. I ordered a new brass/copper heater core. They are a bit pricey and may be overkill as I haven't heard of a lot of heater core replacements with the cheaper aluminum units. I don't use the heater very much in this car. I ordered new carpet and firewall pad because I don't want to deal with mildew, mold or odors later on from the soaking those two items took.
