New Rubber Brake Pedal

I know this is probably a dumb a$$ question but here goes....I finished the restoration on my Cutlass. I ordered a new rubber brake pedal, and it came in today. How do these go on? I also have one for the emergency brake pedal, and for the life of me I cannot get it to fit. Any help or suggestions would really be appreciated. Thanks

I think they just slip over the metal part of the brake pedal kind of like a sock if I recall. Although a reproduction item may not be like OEM and you may have to glue it on.

Thanks Oldsguy. Thats where the problem is coming in. On the back of the rubber pedal part the rubber wraps around. I know it is supposed to overlap to fit over the pedal, but I can't get it more than half on?

My brake and clutch pedal pads just slipped on as Oldsguy said. The gas pedal has to sort of snap or clip on to stay and move freely with that pedal. The e-brake also slips on, but I had to use a little contact cement on it, because it kept coming off.

Use your fingers to pull the lip on the back side out a bit while fitting them over the pedal.

You might try heating it up a "little bit" w/a heat gun or blow dryer to make the rubber more plyable. I remember it being hard to get on, then not staying on until some type of glue put there to hold it.

I haven't done one of these, but yah it should slip right over the metal part of the pedal.

You may not be able to slip the lip over, with just your fingers. A small putty knife will help ease it on. The new ones are a little stiff compared to the old one.Be carefull when you come to the ends, as you can rip the lip, then it won't stay on.

Thanks for all the advice and help. I placed in hot water to soften it up, and it went right on. This is the bestest website ever.

Hot water also makes it fire proof...I think the factory used a dab of glue there because of the snap that makes it want to catapult off when you release the P brake...

If something is to tight I always use a little lube...

A little dish soap and a puddy knife on a warm pad (Hot water works but don't burn yourself) should be the best of all install techniques.

New ones are very stiff.

Guess I was a little late.
