72 Cutlass anyone have any reason why I shouldn't drag this Original tank to the curb for the junk man. Like yes restore it, they don't make them like they used to. Or hell no new ones have stricter regulations, are made better & are also pretty cheap.
I honestly want a new one can someone steer me in the right direction so I don't buy China crap. Or any crap for that matter.

The picture kinda looks like Spongebob, the hornets nests are a nice touch.

You haven't told us exactly what's wrong with it. We can't tell much from that one photo because gas tanks always look like crap when they come off of a 45 year old car. But that doesn't mean that the tank isn't structurally sound underneath.

My first thought is, yes, if the tank is salvageable, get it fixed. No one makes original gas tanks any more, and you know it will fit your car.

Spectra-Premium is a Canadian brand, if I'm not mistaken, although that doesn't mean that any specific product they sell is made in Canada. Auto parts are made all over the world now. I have a Spectra-Premium fuel gauge sending unit in my '67 Delta 88, and it has functioned fine since I put it in in 2009.

The one from Autozone is almost $600 this one on EBay has to be a peice of crap at $114.00 maybe restoring the old one is the way to go.

It's only the one with the in-tank fuel pump that costs $600. Do you need this one? The other option, the tank alone, is $250, which is about the going rate for a new one.

My old one could I guess be added to my long list of parts to restore the outside no major deal couple hours inside another story kinda nasty & I know the can be cleansed but not even close to new not in this condition. So why take a chance for $250 I get new stainless with brackets and sending unit. The cheaper $114 one on EBay is galvanized, I'd rather have the stainless. Right now I'm leaning towards new. Doing all the rust underneath where's that dude from dirty jobs I got a episode for him. Me on my back with a drill and rotary brush.
Real quick this car has 3" custom exhaust I need to take it out for my rust project. Where's the best place to cut it if I'm gonna reuse. Also what's the benefit to 3" as opposed to 2/12 thx in advance kinda learning on the fly here you guys are awesome not a whole lot this site doesn't know.

I just replaced my tank on my 72 cutlass. I think the tank was like 125 but I had to buy straps, pump, separate. I reused the cap. I still have my old tank which has a couple thin areas that were seeping on the bottom. I thought about fixing it but ehhhhh, I got new and have piece of mind. I'm not sure why I'm hanging on to the old one. I guess because it's not too far gone...idk
