Painted number on frame...

Well I finally started to take things apart. I dropped the gas tank (NO build sheet) but when I took the bumper off I noticed a painted number on the back part of the frame. Does any one know what this number was used for or what it means?

That number does not show up in the book...so I am assuming it is the part number for that specific piece which would not be serviced separately...

Those first and last digits or letters? are hard to read, is that an eight and a six?, those grease paint or chalk markings above it?

Weird it would be stencilled under the bumper bracket like that? It's almost like somebody was trying to hide it. Maybe it's one of those legendary hidden ID numbers only the highway patrol knows about. Does it correlate to your vin in any way?

Thanks everyone for your help on this. I turned the picture so everyone doesn't have to stand on there heads to read it. The hand written looks like 6-15-68-1

Should I try and preserve this or it just doesn't matter?
