Question about soft ray glass

I have all the windows out of my 71 442 and at my house cleaning them up and noticed one of my windows didn't match. Passenger side looks like a replacement and has zero markings on it. The drivers door and rear say soft ray. The quarter windows were already wrapped up in storage but did have marking on them and had that greenish tint like the others. I assume they were the same. My intent was to have the windows tinted professionally while off the car anyways. Should I replace that one window to match first or will the aftermarket tint blend everything together? Also, has anyone had their windows tinted while off the car and how did it turn out or should I just wait until I can drive it to get done?

Thanks dave

By law the glass had to be marked from the manufacturer, so you have a replacement passenger side. It shouldn't be hard to find one from a donor, but depending on how dark you tint, will you be able to tell a difference from the outside. And beware of state laws when doing it. For instance here in GA, the law is 32% and they are strict about it. More info here

If your windows are all dark, doesn't it make it hard to see traffic, or am I just an idiot?

It does make it kinda hard to see at night. I am not planning on going super dark, but wanted something to protect the interior and it gives it a great look from different angles and really sets it off in my opinion. I think Ohio law is 65% visibility which is not hard to drive or see thru.
I have a 2012 accord that has about 50% which is technically over the limit but it looks good and is not a problem driving. No problems with the police to date but I would never go that dark again.

Well, to each his own, I guess, but I can see how dark widows would keep some sun off of the interior.

glass tint

take a look at the glass that has the markings on it(see pic) ,look for either a-2 or a-1 , depending on if your car was a/c or not will dictate which glass tint was on the car

It is AS2. Didn't realize there was a difference. The passenger side piece doesn't match. I guess I need to pick up the passenger side and replacement windshield to match the rest. The windshield had really bad scratches and was starting to crack at the bottom. Any idea on cost of replacing those two pieces? The windshield had the wire ant in it if that cost more.

I bought tinted from ps auto glass a few years back. Never thought to check on whether it had markings though.

There's also Auto City Classic. They have the best prices I've seen but don't know what it costs to ship.

I guess the question is do you have option A01 or A02?

A02 = windshield only
A01 = all windows

72notchback,
Where are you located? I'm sure one of us "packrat" types could supply a good door glass for you, but shipping might be an issue. You might try a local glass shop in your area, they probably can get you a new windshield reasonably. It would not have the factory markings of course, but it would be new & nice. I've had a few installed over the years for around $275.00 or so???? You can buy them loose & install them yourself if you feel confident.
I'll check to see if I have any of the factory tinted door glass for you tomorrow if I can.
Scott

I have quite a few candidate parts cars.
Too cold to go searching at this time, maybe you should come visit in the spring- Lansing MI area.

I assume we are talking 68-72 Holiday Coupe?
