hey i have a chance to buy a running and driving 80something toronado for $800. i dont know much about these cars, is it a good deal? what do these usually go for? i dont have any specs but if yall do it would be appreciated...

Well, since all we know about the car is that it is an "80s" Toronado, and since Toronados changed considerably in appearance, engines, etc. over that decade, and without any clue as to the condition of the car, without at least a tiny bit more information, it would be very difficult to give you "the" specs or value on a Toronado from that decade (or any car from any decade).

i know its late 80's i believe 307 auto needs slight interior work

It can't be too late in the '80s because, if I'm reading my specs book correctly, the last year the Toronado could have been had with a 307 V-8 was 1985.

If all it needs is "slight interior work," does that mean the exterior is fine? If that's the case, then at $800, it's a steal and a half, and we don't know what you're waiting for on buying it.

The Old Cars Price Guide lists the value of a 1985 Toronado in good running and driving condition and needing partial restoration in the $2,000 to $3,000 range.

1979-85 Toronados. Personally I am always on the lookout for a clean low mileage with no leather with blow out pricing. Currently A local dealer has one for $6500 with 50k and silver and bright interior.


1979 350 gas and diesel
1980 307V8 and diesel
1981-84 4.1 buick gaser ( i don't recall seeing one)
1982 auto o.d.

Make sure it's not a diesel, my dad had one and couldn't get out of town with out calling the tow truck first.....Tedd

If the engine is a 307, it's not a diesel, anyway, as the Olds diesels of that era were either 350 V-8's or 263 V-6's.

I've always liked the 79-85 Toronados (and the other E bodys as well). There is a beautiful one featured in this month's JWO.

LOL! I had a Cutlass Cierra Diesel with the same problem. It was front drive so the drive train was parallel to the motor. If you went 42 mph it would shudder from the harmonics to the point I thought it would come apart. What a POS. The car was given to me by my bro in law. I don't think he likes me. It was less than having nothing considering I had to put a starter in it at the cost of 100 or so bucks in 1987!

I believe the Toronado's of that era have the same v-8 drivetrain options as the Riviera (Gas and Diesel). 79-80 would come with the Olds 350 and 3 spd auto trans and be non-computer controlled. 81-85 would have the Olds 307 with the overdrive trans and computer controlled.

They are very solid and reliable cars but I would only buy one that hasn't been abused and in need of a lot of repairs.
