VERY Cool CHP Olds Pic
Last Thurs, I lost my Step Dad due to cancer, he was a CHP Officer from 1966-2002. We were very tight. We were going through his things when I found this pic of him stranding next to a '67 Olds CHP car. Note the date on the pic. chpolds.jpg

I remember those cars and the Police Department in Ontario CA had a whole fleet of 455 four door cutlasses from Graydon Murphy Oldsmobile in Ontario now gone.
A CHP is a tough job in Calif. Your father-in-law provided a great service to us in Calif. Sorry to hear of the loss.

Sorry for your loss. You have to be very proud of you Dad and have lots of good memories. CHP used Oldsmobiles back in the 50's. They actually leased cars to film the TV Show Highway Patrol with Broderick Crawford. His first car was a 1954 Oldsmobile 2-door sedan. Then they switched to Buick's. I tried to find a utube clip of the 54 Olds but was unable to find it. I know it exists.

Looks like he took pride in his uniform, sorry for your loss. That was a crazy time in CA, I bet he had some stories to tell. Do you know what his primary territory was he patrolled? I live in the Ontario/Riverside area.

This is what I remember. He served in the San Francisco, West Los Angeles, Central Los Angeles, West Valley, Newhall and was the commander of the Ft Tejon CHP areas to which he retired from. One story that sticks in my mind was when he pulled over Michael Jackson on the 118 freeway, he was doing 80 mph in his Mercedes.

Here's to your step father, as well as all other public servants who risk their personal safety on a daily basis. Thanks for sharing a slice of of personality with a side of CHP's finest example of vehicular justice..........clearly sent to "strike down the unroadworthy" (Mad Max 1979)
