1972 Conv Top Boot

I have a 1972 Olds Cutlass convertible but it did not come with a boot. I want to order one but I do not know how it will fit on the car. Does it require any type of clips? My 63 Nova has the snaps but the cutlass seems to have nothing for it to attach to.

It has a piece that slides in a groove on the top of the back seat. Then it has a piece of firm plastic along the outer edges that slips under the chrome trim around the top well.

there is a plastic tab along the length of the boot that slips under the rear moulding. Inside there are a few snaps on the upholstered covers above the arm rests. they seem to fit nice and stay in place real well. I do not recall any groove on the front side behind the seat however. If you go to my website www.sport-pilot.us and click on the oldsmobile link, I have some pictures at Old Town with the top down and the boot on. I thimk I got mine from tamaraz about 17 years ago...

The horizonal round grooved plastic strip attaches above and behind the rear seatback (to the metal piece that runs behind the seatback). The front of the boot will have a plastic strip with a round, beaded edge that slides into the other strip. You slowly work it in across the top of the rear seat. You leave the boot attached by this strip all the time. With the top up, the boot will fit in the well behind the seat. You fold it forward (over the rear seatback) to lower the top. When you put the top down, you fold it back up, slip the flat plastic pieces under the stainless molding around the edge and snap the 2 ends to the interior side pieces.

These pictures of of my 70 Bonneville Convertible, but it is the same on the Cutlass. You can see a very dirty, paint oversprayed strip running across the back. The front of the boot attaches to that strip.

All these years and I never slid the boot into that groove... The way my well liner is installed, it covers the groove! The boot never moved either... even cruising down the highway at 75!

The strip attaches after the liner and on top of it. I spray mine with a little lube for plastic. It is easier to install with the top up and sitting in the back seat. If the top is down, the top folds over the strip and makes it harder to get at. By the way, kitfoxdave, where on the Treasure Coast do you live? I'm in Fort Pierce.

I'm just off I-95 in Vero Beach neighbor... The way my well liner is installed there is NO access to that channel... I'll need to check that when I replace my well liner, probably next year...
