Tire choice for 83 HO

Tire choice for 83 HO
My 83 still has the original tires and while moving it today from one warehouse to another, one tires tread started to separate. So I gotta get new tires and use these for display only. What brand tire are folks using in the HO club? I havent found any correct reproduced Goodyear GT raised letters. Thoughts?

Yeah the issue is convincing the wife why a set of tires cost over 1700 shipped. Nonspecific raised letter tires can be had for $90. Not sure how these companies can sell very many at those prices. Its already a somewhat limited market but those prices will keep quite a few owners like me from buying.

Here's an NOS tire as compared to the repro GT. If you have to have the right tire, this is it. Pricey? Sure. But if you're still running the original tires, I would assume the car has to be in great shape with relatively low miles. If you can swing it, stay with the original look and feel.
And this is an NOS Eagle GT vs a brand new Eagle GT II on the last pic showing the tread difference.

Well the car sees almost no use as its in my museum collection. But since the almost 40 yr old tire separated just standing still practically, even putzing around town is probably a bad idea. It will be cheaper to find a single and ultimately buy nice rims where i can mount a driver set of tires for what they want for the repops set. Hassle is changing out rims if i want to drive it but since it sees very little use, using the originals for display purposes only makes financial sense. Ive got an 84 ho as well with original tires. Probably just have to exchange wheels between the two when showcasing in the museum.

I seriously doubt Goodyear, or anyone else, thought that nearly 40 years later their tires would still be in use. The expectation was they lasted a few years, then got replaced because they were worn out. Rubber tires do weird things if they sit. I guess it was lucky you had Goodyears. My dad used to tell me never buy Firestone tires because they would crack between the treads. I thought he was full of crap. Bought some Firestones for a 71 442 one time and sure enough, they started cracking between the treads. And that was before they were 2 years old.
I can solve all your tire dilemmas. Sell me your 84 and you'll have the money to get the repro GTs!!
