Well after 46 years my heater core sprung a leak. Now all I have to do is find time and crawl under the dash to see how to get the bugger out of there.

They seem to never go out in the summer, lol!

I did one on a 67 Cutlass once.
Wasn't too bad, but then again I
didn't have to deal with a/c either.

no storm issues here in the DFW area. Mine is a no a/c car.

IIRC, you will have to take the heater core housing off from the firewall side. One nut above the fan motor is almost impossible to get to...........

I thought it comes out from the inside of the car

Oldcutlass you know the drill pull the front passenger seat out so you can lay down in comfort especially if your as old as the car.

I think you're right Eric. The in/out hoses are attached from the engine bay, but it looks like you have to take the heater box out from inside the car.

I'm older than the car, and a bench seat. Thanks for the diagram Allan. From the looks of it I have to take the nuts off the studs through the firewall and then the box falls out fom the inside. That makes sense.

Eric you kill me! Most of us are older than your car. I was 14 when I learned to drive on our 67. Ooooops, I keep forgetting about the younger crowd.

Anytime. That's my take on it too. Pretty much the same as my bench seat 72 (which we both know now we're way older than)

I'm not sure but I think you'll have to disconnect the slide cables for the heater too.

Tuck an unloved towel or something absorbent between carpet/padding & firewall so no drips soak in creating a lingering smell.

I fought with pulling the heater box out straight when I pulled apart my '71, it kept snagging on one end and bending the studs. The bent water pipes don't make it any easier.

But hey, daily drivers are the best.

Did mine a few weeks back on the 88.....it was easy getting it out but when putting it back one of the 4 bolts got a little tweaked and it would not line up right.....a few cuss words and a few attempts I got it!!!

Eric, plug the heater core inlets (where the hose connects) on the inside with some paper towels...as you remove it rotate it so that they point up. You won't lose a drop, except for the place it is leaking from. They're easy, have fun

Ok, just an update. Finally decided to tackle this today. There is one stud that was a biatch to get to, the lower 1 behind the wheel well. All in all it wasn't too bad and this is one time I'm glad that the car is a no air car. I have one coming from O'Reiley should be here by 3. Hopefully it's the same!

Seff, my original heater core had straight upper and lower tubes, however like yours the lower one had a 45 degree bend toward the outboard side and angled up a bit. It was a PIA and after about an hour and a few appropriate cusswords, viola, it popped into place. Again I'm glad it was not an A/C car.

I had already converted my firewall from AC to non-AC, so the grinder was lying RIGHT there... Too tempting.
