My 1970 QB code Cutlass 3spd!

A few questions for those of you who might know more than I….
is anyone aware of Len Kemppker Chevy-Olds Inc. in Tehachapi California?
As I’ve seen the QB code offered in a few different variations is or was it possible there are 4 door models or wagon models out there with the QB code? If you could order a rallye or coupe or post car why couldn’t one be ordered in a wagon or 4 door?

The high compression 350 4bbl was available with 3 spd manual trans across the Cutlass line for 1970, including wagons and more-doors. The 1970 engine assembly manual shows the QB engine for all MT applications. It doesn't distinguish between three speed and four speed.

Just a teaser post…would anyone be interested in seeing a build thread by my brother? Everything is done by him in his garage in his free time….no big resto shop no help from anyone but his children from time to time…pure genuine skill and unmatchable knowledge. Let me know and I’ll stir up some motivation to get the timeline posted. Pic below is current progress…

No need to replace the rear in your car. The O type is very strong and capable. If you want to go faster can purchase 3.42 gears and of course LSD. If you want to keep your gears for cruising even better. The new production posi is designed for use with GM 3.08-3.23 gears. If you find a GM posi for it you will pay more than the new ones and it will probably still have original clutches. Sweet ride and good luck with overhaul!

Very cool car. I have always loved Oldsmobile's with stick shifts. It is nice to see appreciation for the QB cars, they are very interesting and most people don't know about them. I currently own two cars that may have started out with a QB, a Rallye 350 4 speed and a 70 Supreme with a factory 4 speed. Both were missing the original carbs and are Lansing cars.
Back in the early 80's I had a different 1970 cutlass supreme with a 4 speed which likely was as well. It had 3:91 gears, buckets, console, dual mirrors and the suspension package. Super rusty, but a very quick car! I sold it for $600 and bought a 1970 vista cruiser at the time.
I wanted to comment on your car as it reminded me of one I test drove back in about 1985. It was 1970 f-85 with buckets, no console and a factory three speed on the floor. It had dual mirrors, a rear sway bar-factory suspension upgrade and pretty much no other options. It was also the same color as yours also.
I could have bought it for $200, but it was very rusty and needed a clutch.

Okay so it’s been a long while and I’ve just been side tracked. Trying to get back into it and work on my car a little more. An upcoming car show in north GA end of this month so somewhat preparing for the 3-4hr drive in the QB there and back! This past weekend, I removed the old trunk paint with stripes to repaint with original color and no stripes. Finally they’re gone! Way better look. Next is the hood! Enjoy the photos below.
My 18 month old daughter in front of the car that will be given to her when she gets her license.
Local summer nights cruise in
Circa 1990s cross country trip from previous owners “The Thompsons”
Larry Thompson previous owner, found some old photos from a cross country from California to Michigan.
7/17/22 rear trunk stripped and repainted original color without stripes.

Good looking car. Gotta love the subtle look with chrome side mouldings along with the strong 350 and manual transmission. The QB code cars are a textbook example of how a buyer could get a lot of performance and yet still sneak under the insurance premium radar. Have fun on your road trip.

I am addicted to Mr. Jones restoration.
I plan to go through my spare parts and i'll offer anything you need for a fair price to keep your resto on the go.
