Question 1961 98 bogging under load

Hi everyone, new guy here. love the site! got a 1961 98 holiday 4 door 4bbl 394. I'll get picture up soon. Original car 26,641 miles when i got it a year and a half ago. now 29,000. runs good until i tromp it,them it falls on its face.whith out any load on it tachs up now ,no hesitation.also when on highway, going up a hill it will cut out or bogg, let off pedal and it will regroup.when i first got car i rebuilt carb, new points, coil, wires, set timing and dwell, advave turns freely with vac. plugs look good (choc brown).I did remove choke lock plate to secondaries .looked after warmed up, like it was sticking.maybe the secondaries are actually hanging up. I hope someone can help me! seems like a lot of smart people here!

Oh! also looking for a rear bumper, doesn't have to be perfect.

It is possible that the secondaries aren't opening upon demand. I think there is a lock out on the lower plates, at least on the quadrajet i think there is one but not sure about the older gen Rochester on your car. Hope you are able to get it worked out with the help of our members and welcome to our site.

When you rebuilt the carb, and installed new needle + seat, did you re-set the float level?
Could be as easy as that.

Took carb apart, found secondary float inverted and hanging levels to be off a little, adjusted and put back together.runs better off the line, but if you stay in it, it will start getting a flat on its face feel, like before but seems to recover quicker.think I will put a fuel pressure gage on to see running pressure.could my fuel line be collapsing?

Cold also be poor fuel pump performance. You'll find that out with a pressure test

Thanks Citcapp, Clogged filter! checked pressure and had 6 lbs. but low volume.pulled filter had high volume. Yeah!!! She runs Great now. I had pulled the filter an blew through it a couple weeks ago and it was straight thru. I guess the dirt had fallen off when i checked it ,but was getting sucked back up after running for a bit.

Thank You for the responses!

That is great news! I know you are very happy about correcting that problem. My best friend is an ASE certified mechanic and teaches at a VoTech. Someone like him could probably have hit a home run on the first pitch but hey, that's why we have this site and have members that contribute. Sooner or later we get the job done. Don't be scarce now and keep posting. Let's see some pics of your car too.
