OOps...sorry to BlueVista...I sent him a message by mistake...I was aiming for Allen R.
In any case...vin reads 344670M19927X (X) in place of last number...
Put on your sleuthing caps gentlemen...lets get to the bottom of this one!

Unfortunately, that's all it provides. If you had a broadcast sheet, build sheet or a cowl tag, that would help a lot, but as you've already said those aren't around. Can you tell by looking at the vehicle whether it's been restored? Some places to look for the broadcast sheet or build sheet include:
- under the front or rear seats (between the springs and burlap)
- on top of the gas tank (lots of work that may not be productive)
- inside of a kickpanel area
- under the carpeting
Check in the owners manual to see if anyone stuffed relevant paperwork in there. Does the car have the original paperwork and protecto plate?

No owners manual, or any of that, and it has definitely been restored. I did manage to get under the car and view the tag on the trans (passenger side) and it reads 70-OG 7214. I couldn't get a clear view of the drivers side of the trans with it in the car.
Im curious about this "frame number" and it's location...I looked around under there but could not see anything due to undercoating...if I know where to scrape it off, I will gladly do so.

More info
Looking for all the clues that I saw on 442.com, everything looks right...it has the rear sway bar and boxed in control arms. The rivets that hold the vin number on the dash look right , and the title is clear.
Im still very curious as to the number on the frame that one fellow mentioned. I looked where he described, but cant seem to find it. If someone can describe in better detail where to look I want to check this out !
I want to know completely what is right and wrong so when I go to sell it I can disclose it all...Im not one to like surprises to pop up down the road!
I do think that perhaps it started life as a white car...I think I see white inside around the top mechanism when the top is down. Perhaps this is why the tag was removed? I have seen the reproduction tags out there...seems a little seedy though...but if everything else is proven, that might be a way to go.

check this thread out, I saw mine instantly - checked before I purchased the car, some folks can never seem to find the stamp on their car, mine is obvious once you see it.

AWESOME! That link helped tremendously...I have found the number and it is clearly readable and best of all..it matches the vin tag on the dash. Yay!
Now at least I know it is a genuine 442 and not a clone. The cowl tag being missing is a mark against it, but the car is the real deal (and I can sleep better tonight!)
Thank you everybody for all your help...great forum!

My cowl tag was hanging by one rivet, ready to fall off when I got it. You could see were it was dug into from a previous accident from either the hood or the fender. So, yes, they do come off. I still have to put mine back on.
